40-hour
Hazardous Waste Site Operations
The 40-hour Hazardous Waste Site Operations
(Hazwoper) course is designed to train
personnel in the safe and effective management of hazardous materials and
hazardous wastes. This training satisfies the OSHA initial training requirements
in 29 CFR 1910.120.
This course includes
intensive classroom training in chemical and physical hazards, personal
protective equipment, and standard operating procedures for safe handling
of hazardous materials. Classroom training in the use of personal protective
equipment, air monitoring instruments, and decontamination facilities is
reinforced through a series of hands-on exercises and field demonstrations.
The training program
culminates in the application of the course subject matter during a simulated
site investigation scenario. This exercise requires that the class function
as a team in the development of a site safety plan and the full-scale investigation
of a simulated hazardous waste site.
24-hour
Occasional Worker
The
24-hour Occasional Worker course is designed for workers who occasional
work on the site and are not expected to exceed any permissible limits of
the contaminants. This course is most appropriate for surveying, groundwater monitoring, etc. This course covers all of the hazard awareness topics
of the 40-hour course without the protective clothing and respirator training.
Site
Supervisor
PSARA also offers the Site Supervisor training for individuals who will
be directing workers on site and are responsible for the overall safety
of the site. This course focuses on the responsibilities and liabilities
of site management. Participants are challenged with a variety of problem-solving sessions.
Refresher
Classes
Refresher courses are conducted to maintain annual certification. These courses
present up-to-date information, a review of information presented in the
initial training course, as well as group discussion sessions where participants
can share recent experiences and problems.
Who
Should Attend?
Personnel conducting onsite work in operations involving hazardous substances
or the investigation of hazardous waste sites will benefit from this course.
The program is oriented toward clients involved in site investigations,
remedial cleanup actions, and field sampling projects.
This program is designed
to fulfill the initial training requirements of the new OSHA Hazardous Waste
and Emergency Response Operations regulation, 29 CFR 1910.120. The planned-response
approach is particularly appropriate for Superfund contractors, environmental
consulting firms, geotechnical engineering companies, government environmental
agencies, and drilling contractors.
