According
to U.S. Labor statistics, over 1.6 million people in the United States work
in confined spaces each year. In April 1993, the standard for Permit-required
Confined Space Entry, 29 CFR 1910.146, was finalized. One of
the most important elements of this standard is the required training. The
Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)
estimates that training will prevent 54 fatalities and more than 5,000 serious
injuries per year.

PSARA Technologies,
Inc., has been a leader in the training field for more than 11 years. All
courses offered by PSARA are designed to meet or exceed regulatory requirements.
Our instructors actively participate in confined space entry operations
and bring direct, hands-on experience to the classroom environment.
Entrant,
Attendant, and Entry Supervisor
Our Entrant/Attendant/Supervisor
course for Confined Space Entry
is designed to teach students how to work safely in and around
confined spaces. Through classroom lecture and hands-on activities, students learn to recognize a confined space, identify and evaluate the hazards
associated with confined space entry, select equipment, and prepare a confined
space entry permit. Key topics covered include:
|
- Regulatory Overview
for 29 CFR 1910.146
- Confined Space Hazards
- Toxicology & Exposure
Guidelines
- Entry Determinations
- Atmospheric Testing
|
- Personnel Roles &
Responsibilities
- Personal Protective
Equipment
- Permit Procedures
& Permit Preparation
- Classroom Exercise:
Permitted Entry

|
Students also participate
in an entry exercise involving a simulated permit-required confined space.
The exercise requires students to complete an entry permit, select and use
proper equipment, and monitor operations during entry procedures.
For personnel involved
in confined space entry operations who also need to attend the OSHA 40-hour
course for Hazardous Waste Site Operations or 24-hour Emergency Response
training, PSARA offers a half-day course option in conjunction with either
of these courses.
Confined
Space Rescue
PSARA can train your emergency response personnel to perform confined space
rescues. OSHA requires rescuers to have training specific to the confined
space configurations that employees will be entering. This training includes
simulated rescues from each type of confined space (vertical, horizontal,
tight opening, etc.). This training can involve complex procedures with related
medical stabilization of the victims. Our trainer's emergency response background
mixes practical experience with regulatory compliance to bring a comprehensive
training program to your facility.
